The Choices Of Your Life!

~The power of choice and how your life's choices can impact your relationship with God~

Beloved, there is one thing which you and every person on this earth has that is so vital to your life, that even the Lord God of Heaven will not take it away from you, although you may use it to cause damnation to your very soul...

You have, right now, the God-given right to determine your future. "But," you might say, "Isn't God Sovereign over everything? Doesn't He pre-determine what I will do with my life? Won't He just make me do what He wants me to do?" Beloved, God is indeed Sovereign over all, but He has determined that you would have a free will to make your own choices in life:

"I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now CHOOSE LIFE, so that you and your children may live..." (Deut. 30:19, NIV). This passage demonstrates three major truths: 1) that God gives us the freedom to make choices in this life; 2) that He clearly wants us to know what the alternatives are, and 3) that He clearly makes known to us what His will is for our choice!

Saints, whatever choices you made yesterday, are making today, and will make tomorrow, they are leading you in either one of two directions -- toward death, or toward life. While God may give you the freedom to choose, His will is for us to choose life, for that is what He wants for us -- LIFE, and that more abundantly (St. John 10:10). Beloved, it is never, ever God's will that any of us should be defeated, suffer evil, die early, or experience any of the curses of disobedience and sin -- that is why He commands us to choose life and blessing (Gal. 3:13, Ezek. 18:31-21, Eccl. 7:17, 1 Tim. 2:3-4). That God somehow desires for us to experience curses and death is the greatest of lies!

The Truth Made Plain...

Many people, when confronted with their right to choose life or death will say, "Well, if God wants me to be saved and do right, He will tell me, if He does exist!" Oh foolish one, He has told you and shown you in more ways than one! For as long as man has existed, he have tried to erase the evidence of God's existence by inventing carnal, self-worshipping theories about how the world came to be, and by trying to discredit the spiritual validity of God's Word.

Why? Because mankind knows that as soon as they acknowledge that there is a God and that the Bible is His Word, then they must recognize that there is a right and a wrong, and that they must make a choice between the two! They would no longer have an excuse for sin (Rom. 1:18-20).

Beloved, God does not hide His standards! He openly declares them for all to see, tells us what His will is, then steps back to let us choose life or death, blessing or cursing, and allows us to experience the consequences of our choice.

The Consequence of Choice...

"Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to the flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the spirit shall of the spirit reap life everlasting" (Gal. 6:7-8).

Saints, for every choice you make, good or bad, there is a consequence. This is an unchangeable principle of God's creation (Gen. 8:22): whatever you sow will bring some kind of harvest; for every action there will be a reaction; for every choice, there will be a consequence!

Beloved, God does not force choices, although He will lead us towards the right ones; Satan cannot force choices, although he does attempt to deceive us daily toward the wrong ones through worldly music, television, social pressure, sinful attitudes, and carnal thinking! But you, and you alone, are solely responsible for the choices you make, whether to obey God or fall prey to Satan.

Satan is a master at disguising choices of death and cursing to make them look like just what you want. How many people do we know who chose fornication and loose living, only to reap AIDS? How many people have chosen to smoke and drink, only to later reap cancer and alcoholism? How many saints have chosen to marry out of the will of God, only to reap a broken home, divorce, and anguish years later? Only God truly knows. Many saints who have gone through trauma and heartache have only themselves to blame, for they chose cursing instead of blessing; they thought only of the pleasures of today, not thinking on the pain of tomorrow?

Beloved, if we are to make right choices in life, then our choices must not be rooted in our feelings, flesh, emotions or carnal thinking, but on the Word of Almighty God!

"Enter the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it" (Matt. 7:13-14, NIV). Beloved, ask yourself: are you choosing the Gate to life, or the road to death? Your choice today determines your road tomorrow!

The Downward Spiral of Sin...

"But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin; and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death. Do not err, my beloved brethren" (James 1:14-16).

Beloved, are you aware that whatever spiritual influence you obey in your life, you become a slave to? You can become a slave to godliness or to sin; the choice is yours! (Rom. 6:16). Every time you surrender your will to sin, it will get easier and easier, and you become a greater slave to that particular sin in your life. It will so control you and bind you in a growing stronghold of sin until you no longer have the strength to choose life, and the end results will be the death of your marriage, your ministry, your vision, your dreams, or your physical body.

That's what Jesus died for: that you might be free from the bondage of death and choose life!

"And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom you will serve..." (Josh. 24:15). Saints, let us choose the blessing and life that Jesus died to give us!
